A loose port is mechanical, not random

A charging port that only works at a certain cable angle, or has become loose, is a mechanical connection wearing out — not an intermittent software glitch. It reliably gets worse with continued use, since every plug-in stresses the same worn connection point.

We check whether the fault is at the port itself, its connection to the motherboard, or the charging circuit further inside the board — these are three different repairs with different costs, and we confirm which one applies before quoting anything.

Charging port issues we handle

Loose DC Jack

The barrel-style charging port has become loose or wobbly.

USB-C Charging Port Fault

A USB-C charging port that's stopped working or charges unreliably.

Charges Only At Certain Angles

The classic sign of a worn or partially detached charging connection.

Port Physically Damaged or Bent

Visible damage to the port from a knock or a bent charger pin.

No Charging Response At All

No charging light or response when plugged in — checked alongside adapter and battery causes.

Port Disconnected From Motherboard

The port itself is fine but has come loose from its connection point on the board.

Not sure if it's the port or the battery?

See our dedicated guide to work out which one actually matches what you're seeing.

Not Charging

Suspect a charging-circuit fault on the board?

Deeper charging IC and power-rail faults live on the motherboard and need board-level diagnosis.

Questions People Ask

Charging port repair — common questions

1. Is a loose charging port always a hardware problem?

Usually, yes — a port that only charges at a certain angle is a mechanical connection wearing out, not a software issue. It reliably gets worse with continued use, not better.

2. Can a charging port be repaired, or does it need full replacement?

Both are possible depending on the damage — sometimes the port itself can be re-seated or resoldered; sometimes it needs replacing. We check which before quoting.

3. Is this the same as a battery problem?

No — a charging port fault is mechanical/electrical at the connector, while a battery fault is the cell itself losing capacity. See our laptop not charging guide if you're not sure which one you have.
